Like many other industries, technology is invading the world of fashion. As wearable technology grows in popularity among consumers, 3D printers become more affordable, and e-commerce continues to replace traditional retail, a host of familiar legal issues will need to be addressed within these emerging contexts. Join the FLW Team, the nation’s preeminent legal practitioners, artists, and technology experts for in depth discussion of the major issues arising at the intersection of fashion and technology.

From smart watches to glasses, wearable technology is rapidly becoming the “new black” within the fashion industry. As wearable technology grows in popularity among consumers, it will be easier for others to capture information about the wearer. In this panel, panelists will address several issues surrounding the concept of Wearable Technology ad its place in the current marketplace. This panel will cover the process and technology behind wearable technology, e-textiles, smart devices, privacy & data security, products liability, warranties, intellectual property rights & vulnerabilities, and the obstacles with wearable technology going mainstream.
This panel will also address issues relating to 3D Printing in the fashion law context and feature a 3D printing demo. This panel will guide attendees through the process and technology of 3D printing, and will address protection rights, product liability, infringement vulnerabilities, and the functionality of this new emerging technology.

From Rent the Runway to Amazon.com, online retailers are the present and future of shopping. E-commerce has rapidly replaced traditional retail. No longer is the local mall the primary source for retail therapy. With buying power resting at the tips of your finger tips, tech savvy and not so tech savvy fashion addicts are able peruse the internet for all of their fashion fixes. Panelists will discuss the evolution of the online fashion landscape and the legal implications related to online sales, online advertising, counterfeiting, free riders, consumer protection rights, trademark rights, social media, licensing, and privacy.

Fashion Law Week is taking conference legal education to a level. Keeping with the Fashion Tech theme, the FLW Team is to add two digital panels to this year’s events. The panels will provide an open forum for discussion on all things fashion law, fashion tech, and e-commerce. The Digital Sunday panels will be broadcast on Youtube and will be able to be re-viewed. Fashion entrepreneurs, students, fashionistas and designers will be able to tweet questions and email them in advance!
